ABOUT JEROLD E. LEVINE
Jerold E. Levine has advised and represented hundreds of clients before the courts and government agencies of New York. He has appeared in both criminal and civil law cases, as well as administrative law trials, hearings and arbitrations.
Professional medical conduct and other professional conduct cases are an important concern of Mr. Levine’s administrative law practice. With more than 20 years experience in cases involving government letter notices, complaints, investigations, charges and specifications, hearings, trials, appeals, court proceedings and license reinstatements, Mr. Levine provides knowledgeable counsel to professionals in O.P.M.C. and O.P.D. licensing and disciplinary matters.
Mr. Levine has acquired significant skill at assessing the legal dangers that face professionals who are subject to government investigation or other action, and he advises about the ancillary legal and other issues that can arise from a professional misconduct case.
In the area of firearms and weapons law, Mr. Levine is a recognized authority—often referred to by news media sources as “The Gun Lawyer.” He has authored numerous legal articles on firearms law topics, and has presented various legal and practical seminars. Mr. Levine also is a court certified ballistics expert, a certified firearms instructor, and the author of the book New York Assault Weapon Laws.
Mr. Levine has represented clients in matters from misdemeanor weapon possession to serious felony gun charges. He is consulted often by other counsel about statutory interpretation and weapon specification issues related to the legal status of particular weapons.
Additionally, firearm licensing cases comprise a substantial part of Mr. Levine’s practice. He has broad experience with all issues affecting firearm license applications, current licensees, license investigations, hearings and appeals, and Article 78 court proceedings. Several important legal precedents have been established in licensing cases argued by Mr. Levine.
In the civil service law field, Mr. Levine represents clients in every phase of government employment; from job applicants, to disciplinary cases, to terminations, to disability retirement pensions. Over the years, he has developed innovative litigation strategies for helping civil service candidates and employees, and frequently has been featured in The Chief newspaper and other publications.
Mr. Levine often takes unusually difficult civil service cases that have been turned away by other attorneys, and has presented legal arguments that have resulted in significant decisions. His advice regularly is sought by others—including government officials, attorneys and journalists—who rely upon his opinions about civil service matters.
As a legal commentator and spokesman, Mr. Levine has appeared on television and radio broadcast media throughout the United States, Europe, South America and the Far East.
Mr. Levine received his juris doctor degree from New York Law School, and is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.
